Sets critique

While I’m a big fan of MLB the Show, I am disappointed this year that theme teams are on the back burner due to the set format. There are so many players that are locked, especially bullpen arms. I hope in 24 the dev team goes back to the progression system of OVR to keep the game active for all player bases. As a person who works 40 hours and has 20 hours of college courses it’s hard to grind for all of the new players for each new set.

They seem unusually quiet this year. Far less streams because of the huge length of seasons. I haven’t seen this much discontent with the game in the few years I’ve played. I have a feeling they will go back to the progression format. Day 1 99s were a disaster and no card is really exciting because we already have 99s available for everyone. Except George Brett- what up with that?
Personally, I think the Captains idea was good in theory but really hasn’t panned out except for the few really good ones like Wright and Jeter early on and Ripken and Rollins more recently.
Content wise, they have provided far more this year than last so I enjoy that but I can’t keep up either and this is the only game I play.
So, in a nutshell. I agree :).
The one area I think they need to expand on is Mini Seasons- only if they can make it work of course.

keep the 99 day one format. Game is far more fun day 1, game plays alot better then having to use non complete cards, theres a reason gameplay was a lot more smooth at the beginning this year. This game isnt ment to played with low overall cards, especially in ranked.

There have been day one 99 overall cards since I really got into DD.(19) I do agree that team affinities are far less appealing this year due to expiring cards, and I also hope they go back to previous years without set/season restrictions. I have not completed any this year and only progressed a couple to get specific cards. The sets/seasons give me less motivation to P5 any cards, especially batters. The captain cards have potential for future games if tweaked a bit.

I'd like to see the "Captain" be a feature or ability you can activate on a card. Certain guys can have the "ability". Maybe it's inherent to the player, maybe something needs to be earned to Unlock it's use. But then no matter what version of the card is used...that player can be the captain. Maybe the better the card the better the boost? I don't know we can play with that... You can have a speed guy, power, contact, defense, whatever. If sets disappear, maybe it wouldn't matter, but with Sets...I think this would be more beneficial towards Theme team builds. Just got this brand new Gary Carter Clemente Awards Card and can't use it on my Mets build cause I need to use his captain card to boost the team as it isn't very good! LOL.

Maybe they’re in college or high school? Or their audience is so they don’t post as much? I don’t waste my time watching people play this game so don’t criticize my not knowing now old they are so I included their audience into the conversation.

Captain cards need to have NO negative numbers associated with them. They are CAPTAINS, they bring positive attributes to the table for the “team”.
Do that and we’d all be using captains way more frequently.
Can’t tell you the number of times I started to use a Captain, saw a bunch of negative (red) numbers and backed off.

As for sets…I give SDS for trying something different, but this ain’t it.
Making TA 3 and 4 mandatory to finishing Season 3 and Season 4 sets was a terrible decision. IMO.
I wonder how many of us are finished the various sets and collections this year. I’d bet it’s way lower than previous years.

For the first time in years, finally hung it up and am done with the game for the year ( I have played year round for years). I found myself playing just to keep up with all the BS grind they throw at you to have the latest eligible “plug in whomever’s 99”, and not playing because I enjoyed it. Think I am going in 2 weeks now and still no interest to play.
SDS just swing and missed this year in my opinion.
