Xbox X vs PS5 - my review
-
Probably "TLDR" for most, but here goes:
I've been a PS guy forever. I did pick up an Xbox X a week ago at Costco, and have been putting it through its paces. Here are my thoughts (I'm curious to hear others chime in who have made the move):
Comparison: PS5 vs Xbox X. I have a wired connection that in general is pretty good. I have a Gigabyte M28u gaming monitor. Both consoles are set to run at 120hz. All of my games were played at All-Star level.
First impressions of Xbox. I fired up some Moments and Mini-Seasons and thought "The Xbox is terrible". Two fixes - first, had to configure it to run at 120hz, which I forgot. Second... Good Lord, the standard Xbox controller is terrible. The PCI was vibrating, seemed like it wasn't really connected... so, I ran to Amazon and got a wired PowerA controller. Way better. And, way cheaper than PS5 controllers.
Once I got to "equal footing"... I really do feel the Xbox is "smoother". I got through my Moments with no issues. Started a "Righty-Righty" Mini Season, since that's probably my weakest situation. Played 4 games, won them all easily, very smooth.
Jumped over to BR. My first game was a freeze-off, which I haven't had in months on the PS5. Played a few more, and again, it just feels smoother on the Xbox. Jumped back into BR on the PS5, and again, it's good, but to me, the Xbox seems better. Not "miles" better, but better. I wish I had hard data to back me up, but all I have is "feel".
Final note - the one thing I'm still struggling with is the placement of the left joystick on the Xbox controller. It's funny how your muscle memory gets hard-wired after years of playing, and then something gets moved an inch and you're completely thrown off. After a week, I'm getting more used to it, but it's still weird.
Curious to see what others think. And again, thanks to @Blind_Bleeder for the notes on getting the PS5 progress linked to the Xbox. (Edit: the only thing that was wonky in the link, was that my RTTS player came over, with all his equipment, perks, etc., but I lost my game progress. He started right back at the beginning, at the draft. On my PS5, he was in the majors. I probably did something wrong).
Edit 2: I did find setting up the Xbox to be extremely simple. I think the menus are easier to navigate than the PS5. I already have an Office 365 account, so everything linked pretty seamlessly. If SDS embedded a link to "Download Stats to .csv", I'd give the Xbox 10 stars out of 10.

I think it feels smoother because of the PowerA controller. The sticks are a little stiffer, and I get a better feeling of control, especially when pitching.
Try using the "crab" method on the left stick to see if that helps. Use your forefinger and thumb on opposite sides of the knob. I have Kontrol Freeks on my controller (purple), so that raises it a bit. I've tried it without the KFs and like putting my thumb on the knob then. But, I feel I have more control with the "crab" method, so I leave the KFs on.
I don't find the menus as easy as the PS5. It's more difficult to find the setting I'm looking for.
The way it handles video for streaming is awful. I need a bright light on me so I don't look red. The PS5 streaming video is much better! Much! It's not my camera either because I hooked it up to my PC and it was great, it's the XBox.
Edit 1: OH - and that darn button that takes pictures. They should put it out of the way. I'm constantly hitting it when I want to hit the left button. It's a pain in the neck to have to keep deleting pictures.
Edit 2: An employee at Game Stop (who helped me get the XBox X version of 22 for free using my points and Pro discount) told me that Kontrol Freeks now makes stick sleeves, so they are stiffer (for the DualSense). I haven't looked into them yet, but that would be a good solution for how loose the PS5 controller feels to me.

LOL - after I got the PowerA, I started experimenting with the "crab" grip (with the KF's on as well). I tried the crab grip it in the past, but it feels better with the LS new position. In my first full BR game, I did get a high inside FB that I turned on for a HR. That's normally a rarity for me.

I would like to hear what Wyatt has to say about his move. It's been a couple of years for him - so maybe he doesn't remember

I haven't even looked at RTTs this year, but can you upload your player to the cloud from your PS5 and download on your XBox? That seems like a hassle, but if you're going to stick with XBox, it may be worth it. I think that has to be done with MTO...

For me on the Xbox series X with a LG C2 @ 120 hz and hard wired fiber I find the biggest difference is controllers with timing on the fastball for online play.
I have
Elite 2
Scuf ( last years version)
Original scorpion Xbox 1 controller and series X controller.
Razor wiredThe elite I get lates all the time. Tried everything with settings. Didn't matter.
Scorpion is better but still fight lates .
Series X about the same as the scorpion.
Razor wired I didn't notice much difference between the wireless controller and I sit about 8 feet away and can't stand the cord.
The Scuf for me is the best by far. I can get early on 100 mph fastballs with no problem. This is a huge advantage over the other controllers. Getting early on fastballs means the pitcher will get nervous and start throwing off speed more and balls . This changes the whole game and leads to better counts and more hits/runs and home runs.
End of the day it all comes down to that fastball. If you can't hit it you're probably gonna lose. If I see a lot of lates on the mound I'm gonna pound you until I see ....lost connection.

I’m thinking about picking up an Xbox for a couple different reasons good review thank you.

I agree on the Xbox. I switched over last year and notice a big difference. I use the power A controller. For me everything seems smoother and timing windows even seem better. I personally didnt notice much difference with pitching but a big difference hitting. I feel like Im playing one level down on the xbox. If Im on legend it feels like hall of fame used to feel on PS5. On hall of fame it feels like all star used to feel. All star kind of feels the same.

That's where I usually play, but it still feels a little better to me. I just played a WS guy on BR and won 4-3. I hit well - mainly a grand slam with gold Reggie Jackson.
Bonus - my gamer tag on Xbox is MarioMendoza.

Plus Starfield... just sayin
-
Did you notice any kind of difference in timing windows?

I have lots and lots of screenshots, none of any interest

For me, I would say that timing windows seem better. I'm definitely hitting the ball harder, online and off.
