Would removing Outlier improve the game?
-
To really improve the game, SDS needs to do away with the 125 attributes. I understand some of these cards are based on the individual player's best season but it has gotten WAY out of hand. Instead of basing a card on a player's best single season, use an aggregate of their best 3 or 5 seasons. If you want to keep the 125 attribute that's fine but only a handful of cards should have a attribute of 100 and above. Ruth, Cobb, Mantle, etc..are players who merit a high attribute rating. Ji-Man Choi should NEVER have 116 contact & 115 power. The game has become very watered down with cards carrying highly unrealistic attribute ratings IMO.

No, but it should be toned down a bit. Too many pitchers have it and it should be 100-101, not 104. I don’t remember Pedro or Kerry Wood ever touching triple digits and if they ever did, it sure wasn’t 104.

What would it do? it would be 99 instead of 101/102.i know there is a big difference, but you would get much relief from outlier removal.
just about everyone in the game is upper 90s now. -

100% agree with everything you have said. I have long said that outlier is the ultimate "equalizer" in this game. It is designed to close the skill gap between players. Sure it will not close the gap between a 900 player and a 400 player, but it will drastically equalize things between a 400 and 600 level player. People like outlier and want it in the game because it makes them think they are better at the game than they are and that is what SDS wants as well.
But like you have said, there is a huge difference between a 99 regular fastball and a 102 outlier fastball. Heck there is even a big difference between a 99 regular fastball and a 99 outlier fastball.

I think outlier has more do with connections issues, I personally have no issue with it it until I play someone with bad connection in a pro park with certain times of the day where I can’t see the ball for three innings. I’m not a top player by any means, but when the connection is good it’s not an issue for me.

Outlier has already been nerfed from previous games. No reason to get rid of it.

I agree. Maybe…maybe allow it to go to 110. With that being for Hall of Fame level ability.
Like Gwynn and Boggs would have 105-110 Vison. Ruth and Aaron 105-110 Pow depending on the card.
All the juiced ratings makes most LS cards unplayable. Even if you don’t mind a small disadvantage…
But…they are playing the the community. Let’s face it the majority still like to play this game as a HR Derby simulator.
They like “nukes” and they like Strikeouts.

what does the outlier quirk do?

what does the outlier quirk do?
The definition says “primary pitch exceeds the max velocity limit”. Which means it can go higher than 101. Many feel that it is more than that though and they feel pitchers with “outlier” have fastballs that are significantly harder to time up than a regular 99-101 fastball.
Pitchers like Nolan, Bob Gibson, Duran, deGrom, some Verlander cards all have outlier.

Why , it still way too easy for 99s to hit tanks on 95 mph fastballs.
Not on HOF & Legend.
I hit much better on those difficulties than AS. There is less randomness. And most players that regularly play on those difficulties will say the same regardless of the outlier argument. So speak for yourself when you make that assumption.

Before I begin - I understand this will never happen. SDS loves outlier & continues to only increase it’s effectiveness every year. Next year’s game you’ll probably be able to hit 108 regularly lol. This post is simply asking the question “What if?”
Last year Madden removed Escape Artist as an ability & by all accounts it drastically improved the game (the game is still garbage but this was a big improvement). I feel that outlier is the same as escape artist in that it is a crutch quirk for people that can’t pitch well…Would removing it from the game improve the online gameplay? My opinion is yes. What are your thoughts?
Why would they? We have pitchers out there who regularly are hitting triple digits. At least this year not every pitch is 102 mph. It’s much more realistic this year than in years past. I’ve seen Randy Johnson throwing between 97-103 this year whereas in years past it was 102 every pitch with his fastball. My guess is you need to practice to recognize the pitch at the release point. Just guessing with good players is only going to frustrate you.

The thing about the 100+ mile per hour pitch is the guys that do throw it don’t throw it 80 times a game. Maybe the game should deduct more stamina for each time you utilize it?
-
The problem with outlier fastballs is connections. In a good connection game it is a little fast but not imposible, you can actually read and react. Outlier in a bad connection game is like 115mph. SDS’ biggest effort should be to improve connectivity instead of content. Can’t enjoy good content in a game where timing is king while having to deal with very high latency.

^^^This. Outlier should be way more rare. Online you go against an outlier pitcher like 95% of all at bats. It’s only like 2 pitchers without it on my squad because of 99 Kimbrel and 99 Jansen.

Outlier is a crutch

Outlier is a crutch
So Duran, Hicks, Ohtani, and the rest of the guys who throw 100-104 should sacrifice their fastball in this game because outlier is a crutch. Or the legends that threw over 100. Come on bud that’s a silly argument.

In contrast, in years past, you only had a few pitchers throwing that hard. There are far more pitchers this year hitting triple digits regularly.

Most pitchers that throw 100 mph are only doing it like 2-4 times a game I think you’re confusing video games with reality
