Salary cap mode could fix useless captains

I feel like a ranked series salary cap mode could go a long way to making these captains more viable. If you had to build a team and could only use a few 97+ at most it would really encourage more creative team building allowing the captains to be able to shine somewhere... currently they are very niche because there aren't enough viable players to fill their requirements with if you want to have a competitve team. Thoughts?

Apparently you haven’t tried to build a squad using the cover athlete captains build. That build along with the durability build are the meta RS builds currently. Go try it and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

What’s your suggestion for a salary cap? Would each player be assigned a dollar figure and you couldn’t exceed X dollars.

So your solution for Captains is that everyone use the SAME two meta Captain builds!?!?

I use Tim Salmon and ohtani captain for mu Angels team build. I like it . My live series boosted Renfroe is my best hitter . I have to get creative with my pitching because the Angels don't have good pitching. But hey , I have a winning record.

It was an example of what you can do with captains if you do your research. Those are just two good builds. There are others like the monthly build. Not everything has to be taken literally. Just was a suggestion that’s it.

The short guys build is really good too. You get power contact clutch and defense.

I'm enjoying my Betts arm accuracy build... currently a weak spot in LF, but that new Yordan card has 96 Arm Accuracy.
+15 to both contact L and R, +15 Clutch, and +10 Fielding.

I understand that. But if the only boosts worth using are the meta boosts that boost cards that are already OP’d…then the Captain dynamic is not working properly.
SDS said it was to encourage lineup variety…and 2 or 3 meta lineups that everyone uses, doesn’t really do that.
As for the OP…I’m all for some type of capped mode. Would be fun and strategic…and the cap could be adjusted.
Or they could have different levels of the cap…small market, mid market, large market for example. Similar to real baseball.

Tbh they can drop 99 captains or 97 captains. Look at how good that Buck O’Neil boost was at the beginning of the year, it made that Satchel Paige 90 into a 99.

I agree there should be better Captain builds. The problem I see is that so many of them require you to use bronze, silver and golds which will never bring them up to a competitive RS squad compared to what’s out there. The reason the Jeter Captain build, the Wright Cover build, the Hoffman relief pitcher build etc are so good is because all the cards can start at low Diamond and become 99s. With the amount of 97-99s in the game, that’s the only way to compete with a captain squad.
I do think the salary cap idea is just a a 9 inning variation of BR. But the fact is, RS was supposed to be the mode you can use anyone at any time and now that seasons and sets is a thing, that’s no longer gonna be true. There should be a happy medium.
