Charisma Smith vs Captains Hoffman

Right now I have Charisma Smith as my closer; but haven't had a chance to use him as I'm grinding Central and West TA missions.
I thought about picking up Captains Hoffman; but until I get WBC Castillo and Afford and BO Taylor, the only RPs I have are Silvers and under.
If anyone else has Hoffman; can you tell me if he also boosts himself or if it's only for RPs?

IMO Captains are way overrated in this game so far. You can get too many top players that don't qualify for any captain series.
As for Hoffman, dang I tried him and then took him out as active captain and I don't recall if he gets the boost also...I can check but it won;t be until like 7 pm eastern time

I think Hoffman is the easiest reliever to hit in every version of this game. Give me those 73mph change up meat balls. WBC Losaiga, Doval, Ohtani all decent. Charisma Lee Smith solid as always.
