HUGE exploit needs fixed for 23

To late to fix it for 22 and to late to submit a bug report.
But if this exploit stays in the game; it will be a game changer.
Just played someone that let his timer run all the way down to '0' and even though it gave me the option to forfeit his game; everytime I hit square it just bounced back to the pause screen.
Hit square 5 times and same thing happened all five times.
Finally he unpaused the game and I struck out his batter to end the inning.
Here is where the exploit happened. Because the batter that I struck out was a player he pinch hit for his pitcher; I figured when the screen popped up I could just hit square again.
Nope, he had an additional 2:59 secs of pause time!
How did he get that much pause time?
