Thoughts on ease to obtain end game cards?
-
I actually started playing Diamond Dynasty for the Show 21 last January - after the season was over. I then played through the whole season with the Show 22. After having both experiences, there is a big difference between swooping at the end of a season and playing a whole season. While inside a season, cards slowly increase in value, and this gives the opportunity to "flip" certain cards to get the player you want. Also, many of the players can be acquired without paying any stubs - simply by playing through the various programs. At the end of the season, it's different; there are a ton of cards to choose from, but much variation in price. Because of this, there are a ton of 99 rated cards that have come down in value from the regular season. This makes many cards "ripe for the picking," because they are available at a cheap price. However, many cards remain unobtainable, because of the price variation. These would be more obtainable during season play.
I.e., we are talking "apples and oranges" in some ways...

How do you guys feel about this?
I'm OK with this. I've been grinding 2022 since day 1, and earning the big-name cards mid-cycle is fun for me. Given that the cycle is winding down, and some new players come in to test the waters, I think @TrickxMaster_PSN is right about generating excitement for the 2023 year.
That said... looking at my time played in 2022 vs 2021, it's way down. I'm hoping 2023 will offer some new things and improved gameplay to keep me interested.

It's January, this is really good for everyone. Anybody that is worried about easy to obtain God squads is bitter. This is also good business by SDS, anybody who buys the game late will have a good experience and want to buy next year's game.
absolutely mate 100%

Hey @raesONE-_PSN, yeah the only thing I don’t like about it is that they completely pivot towards new players and those of us who started at the beginning have nothing left to do. Of course we can play for fun but I wish there were some type of program for year long players. I am sitting at 1,996,000 XP and haven’t played in a week because there’s just not point other then to satisfy my OCD. Good to have you back dude.

I've been playing for 2 days, started with no team and no stubs and my rotation looks like this:
99 DeGrom
99 Verlander
99 Hershiser
99 Cueto
99 JenkinsMy lineup is also full 99s including Trout, Larry Walker, Eddie Murray. These cards were all free.
One side of me likes this, it's late in the cycle anyway so who cares. But there is also a part of me that feels bad for all the people who grinded the entire year to build a good team only to see people like me being able to build an absolute goon squad without any real effort.
How do you guys feel about this? Happy with this development or would you prefer the older style of exclusivity when it comes to end game cards?
I interpret your take on this a bit differently. My feeling is just about the only people playing now are players like me who are not very good and are trying to get a few more cards to finish Mantle. That is based on my games so far in the new BR program.
So starting late in the year like this the reason it is "easy" is because the pool of players is on the low end of the range so good players beat up on them easily. If you started like this partway through the year when the cross section of players was still a wider range of skill I am sure you would have done it, but it would not have been the cakewalk you had.Just my two cents...

I did not really have a take that's why I said that I understand both sides of the argument and was curious about other people's perspective on this.
And I actually ran into some pretty decent players, because the true hard-core players are still out there as well. They won't stop playing until the next game drops. I think I had a "cakewalk" (not really) because I've been playing this game for years on a high level. But that's beside the point of this thread. Anyone can get these rewards easily regardless of skill level. All you need is some time and persistence. -

Thank you! I hear you on that, shame they give up so early on the game. I assume they are working on the next installment, content team probably planning the programs and all. But in my opinion it still feels lazy and wrong to just completely abandon the game a few months before the cycle ends. And if their argument would be that they don't have the people available right now to push out content because everyone is working on the next game, then they made a planning error the year before by not accounting for these last few months of the game cycle.

Since this is my first year I cannot compare to other years, but one thing that struck me was how good the 2022 Finest cards were. If you started really late in the year but were playing when that program was active, you could put together a REALLY strong team simply by grinding through that. A team of only those was going to supplant just about everything else except for the true endgame cards like the Johnsons, DeGrom, Verlander, Mantle, etc. I did feel a bit strange taking so many of the cards I had been working towards all year and finding ones in that program that were clear upgrades with not a huge grind involved.

I’m a lot like you with grinding the game and collecting everything so I get it that at the end of the year it’s harder to sign on with “nothing” to play for. I have two suggestions you could try.
1.Play with an Alt account. You can spend a few months messing around with a team that doesn’t have EVERY card available to you and maybe use some cards you haven’t in a while. Maybe Redo some programs you may have enjoyed.
2.Play Ranked...a lot. I know you say you struggle online. Now is a perfect time to get a ton of reps in while you don’t have to worry about completing other programs like you will come April. If you get frustrated with hitting then you can always play the Event since it’s only common pitchers right now. I’m pretty decent at this game and I just made World Series today for the first time this year. That’s because I finally put all my effort and focus into Ranked and I got better. I think it would be good for you.

I think it’s good they do this to give the late starters a chance to try most of the top cards. Someone who starts this late most likely won’t get the top Collections done so they will still be short a few of the best cards in the game, but at least they can still field a top-tier team that can compete with anyone.
