Is it possible to message a cross-play user in the game?

I got the dreaded PS5 LAN cable disconnect/connect in the first inning of a BR game against an XBoxer, and I wanted to send a message to them to apologize for the disconnect.
I did a search for them in the forum, and they didn't come up, so I was wondering if it was possible to message them inside the game.

I don't think it is possible to message across systems. Best you could do is send a friend request and challenge him to a game of 2v2 and communicate with headsets.

Bummer we can't message through the game. Thanks for the idea about sending a friend request and challenging to a game.

How do you send a friend request to a person on a different console? Every time I look up an Xbox players name on my ps5 nothing shows up

It is under profile within the actual game...not on PSN. So go to your avatar and scroll over until you see "friends". I am away from the game so doing this from memory.

You have it right. It's under Profile > Friends (the icon to the left of the big one in the center) > Requests.
