Question about base stealing

When I have runners on the corners and I try to send the runner from first, it always sends both runners, ending up with a painfully easy out at home. I have tried using the stick with the directional button and L2 and it still sends both.
What am I missing please?

hold the Left analog stick to pick and than L2.

Press towards first with control stick, press steal button, then release the control stick. In other words, hold the control stick for a second after releasing steal.

Tried that multiple times. Runner on home goes anyway and is out by a mile.

I assume you are in custom practice when you are trying this. They are giving you the correct answer so the problem is either you are pressing L2 too late or double tapping or you should broke your controller. I would keep trying it with multiple controllers.

I don't doubt it is actually me. I am trying it in conquest mode if that makes a difference. Tried once in ranked seasons too. Just want to get better. I sometimes forget about practice mode. Will have to do that this weekend when I have more time. Besides I still struggle too much with my hitting to keep giving away free outs.

Press and hold the base the runner is on and then L2. I rarely steal in game. I’m just not good at it. I probably get picked off 75% of the time and half the time it’s like they’re stuck in mud.

Switch to classic baserunning. You won’t regret it.
With classic, hold circle and press L2. You will feel a slight rumble in the controller.
If you intend to take a step, make sure you’re holding circle whilst pressing L1 to take your lead if you only want to lead with your 1B runner.
