Pickoff meter

Can you turn the throwing meter off for pickoffs somehow? It will randomly show up on pickoffs to first when I get them and seems imposssible to hit.

If you cant turn it off does anyone have any tips to help not just get red every time?

This is exactly what I want to know. Thank you for wording it much better than me. Hopefully someone can help us out here.
