40-man Roster bugged?
-
When you start a franchise in spring training, they already have a set 40 guys on the 40 man roster that you cannot change unless you send guys down and use options. Is this a glitch? Because before in franchise mode there used to be a tab at the bottom for 40 man roster and there isn’t anymore??

I copied this from a post I did sometime ago, but anyway:
Anyone on the 40 man roster is instantly granted MLB status in the spring so you can check out your prospects, etc. These are the actual rules as stated by the baseball commission.
So, you play through the entire spring training and on the very last day of spring training you need to set your 26 man MLB roster, which means you have to decide at that point who to send down. As I recall, there still won't be a lineup card available for you to set the minors lineup, but they will be in place when their games start. I think their lineup card shows up a few days before their games start, but don't quote me. So there is no way to get around having a 40 man roster in the spring. You have to set the 26 man roster on the last day of Spring Training. The other option is to skip spring training and set the 26 man at the beginning of the season.
Anyway, DO NOT pass the last day of Spring Training, without setting the 26 man roster because if you do, at the beginning of the Regular Season, the CPU will set a lineup for you and it will be absolutely and completely jacked up, leaving people in the MLB that you wanted to send down and sending MLB players you wanted to keep up, to the minors and burning options all over the place. The beginning of the season can be pretty tedious and I've spent hours setting lineups, trading guys and getting everything set just to start the season. I kinda like that stuff though. I can recall some people being pretty mad about having to burn options for some of their minor league players in the spring, but it's an actual rule that is used to keep teams from having certain guys in the minors indefinitely.
Another thing that can get you in trouble is the Rule 5 draft, where if a player is not on the 40 man, and has been in the minors for like 4-5 years (it says 4-5 in the rulebook, which makes no sense. Which is it? 4 or 5??) which forces you to put minor league players that you like on the 40 man roster, and starting the option burning process. This also has you making the decision of who to trade off to make room for them on that roster. For me, I will put my A and B potential Rule 5 guys on the 40 man and let the C level guys try to skate through and hope they don't get snagged by another team. This usually works since the other teams are not trying to add C level guys to their 40 man. You're not gonna have room for everybody so it's a chance I'm willing to take. You can consider trading some of those C potential guys away if you want, but usually they make it through.

I get all that I guess I’m just confused why I can’t set my 40 man to start the year. The game sets it for me then I have to burn options to send guys down to the minors before the regular season starts..

I can't recall having to burn an option, unless the player is already Rule 5 eligible. Whatever the case, I just deal with it, because if it's actually bugged, SDS isn't gonna fix it.

I just started my franchise the other day so it's already underway. In general my first franchise move on day one, is to get rid of all those old guys who suck (anyone older than 26 with a low OVR), and I only trade for guys who are not on a 40 man and less than 24 years old. So if anyone had to burn an option, they are usually gone anyway. They are someone else's problem. I suppose that's why I've never been bothered by what people see as a bug.
I dunno. I don't worry about it.

I can't recall having to burn an option, unless the player is already Rule 5 eligible. Whatever the case, I just deal with it, because if it's actually bugged, SDS isn't gonna fix it.
If you can try to start a new franchise at spring training and go to your roster and try to send a guy down to triple A that you want to keep there before reg season begins. It will use an option.. kinda dumb yeah..
True.. good point LOL
Yeah, I just play the game as it is, because if I do a bunch of testing and figure, "yeah, it's bugged", what difference does it make? It's not like I'm going to stop playing the game. So to me, it doesn't matter.
My task day one is to rebuild the farm system. I may keep a few career Minor Leaguers around just to help get into the playoffs, but for the most part, guys with burned options get axed. A strong farm will always lead to a competitive MLB team.
