It is going to be a huge grind it appears this year.. You can make stubs like the guy above said, but you have to ask yourself what is your time and energy worth. I have always flipped and made more stubs than I can spend, but my time is more valuable to me than 500 stub flips for hours and hours, so I am probably not doing it unless later game it opens up.
Before anyone takes offense, to each their own. No judgement for those that are flipping all day with small margins
We will see how it goes, but as is I don't see many people competing the collections without spending money or playing the game 5 hours each day

This is pretty much exactly how I feel about it. Last year was my first year to play DD and flipping was beyond easy. I finished the year with tons of unused stubs. As much as I like the "collect them all" mentality, I am great with a game that causes me to choose what I have and build a team that works for me. The Griffey collection came so late in the year last year that I feel like I hardly used him. I am not going to lose sleep at night even if I miss out on collections involving my favorite players.
-
If you're wanting to do collections, flipping gets so much easier later in the year. probably starting in September making stubs gets real easy. i would focus on enjoying the game now and double back on collections later. I also imagine they'll do the same with flash sales and stuff so all the headliners and other pack specific cards will continue to get cheaper and cheaper.
-
Last year we had XBox players new to this style of market. This year they know better. I get the feeling that the only people on Switch playing the game are people using the device as an extension of their PS an Xbox accounts.
Also, last year’s TA program gave out tons and of LScards and stubs.

Not the biggest of a margins, but it's still somthing! Maybe things are turning around!!! let's put an order in for 2020.
Go play a conquest game, come back and check on order.
Buy now 2538 sell now 2256, margin gone. Yay.
I know I know. "It's always like thus early in the year"... I don't remember it being like this last year.
I've been flipping cards for several years now and I've shown a lot of people how to do it. I've never experienced this much difficulty before. They have changed the prices up and not all gold's are minimum 1000 stubs anymore for example. I still think it will get better. It's tough to get those expensive diamonds without successful flipping.

Yeah definitely margins are not reliable or predictable. I don't leave bids for very long because it could disappear inside an hour, or even faster.

Even if it gets better, how many people are going to still be playing? This should be prime time for this game! that's what people don't get. This should be the most fun point In the games cycle, but it's not. They may fix it, but will all the casuals still be interested after going through an entire program where they hardly got any packs to open? When they couldn't fiddle around on the market and make a little stubs? When the idea of making the 2million you need for collections is more daunting than intriguing?
What happens when the first collection drops and the only people who can complete it are the pros and the wallet warriors?

Yep. Can't argue with that. I mean, really, if the market doesn't get better inside a week, I'll drop the game. The collections do seem unreasonable. I made a ton of Stubb's last year and I was able to get what I wanted. All I had to do was work for it, which I'm willing to only do to a point. I have other things to do you know. If they really want to make it this difficult to earn stubs, they can find someone else. The amount of XP you have earn on the faces of the game event is ridiculous. But yeah, I understand the pain.

-
I play the game more for the team building, buying and selling tons of players until you get a team that works for me. To be able to do that costs tons of stubs, so for years I spend as much time flipping cards as I do playing the game. I've always loved that. Last year I played 1700+ games, this year I've played 2. Since the market flipping has turned so crappy I've not been able to do much with a team and I'm not a pro player by long shot. So when the cames been out 2 weeks and the 1st 2 games I played I played teams with all diamond players, I got my aS. kicked. I'm not playing the game to lose. I'm like you'll I'm not wasting my time or spending every dollar I make on this game. If the market doesn't change I'm not playing.

Don't yall realize the past few years that everything they have done has been to STOP the market flippers. They don't want us to flip cards for big profits. The more stubbs you can't make on the market, means the more stubbs you will buy using REAL CASH. That's been their process for a while now and it's definitely getting close.
Yea they may lose a few players ( the kind they are trying to stop anyways) but so many more will buy, will want to build their teams, will still be OCD on collections and play with fav players. I myself do work the market and don't spend cash and won't but I will still enjoy playing the game and seeing what happens. -
i sell my randy johnson everyday aroumd 24k and buy him back after work for under 20k i think the cheaper diamonds are hiding your margins this yr

That may be what they think but they're wrong. People who flip won't just hand them money for stubs.
I flip. I could easily afford to buy collections day 1 but I struggle with the mentally of spending money on virtual cards (real card collection is a different story as I'm up to about 10K so far this year lol). I'm sure most flippers are like me in the sense that it being more difficult isn't going to drive them to buying stubs, it will just drive their interest away from the game - esp with the removal of TA cards and free packs that came with it.

They do seem to want to slow down your ability to make stubs in the game. Why else would they change to qs values. I've seen you before say somthing to the effect of, "I think the new qs values will be a good thing", but I just don't see how buddy. perhaps you could enlighten me there.
By this time last year Byron Buxton card was selling around 8k because everyone knew he was going diamond at the first update . Currently there are no 84 golds selling anywhere near that. That form of investing seems to be dead. I agree with everything you said about showzone. I would also add that these fools watch YouTube videos titled "from 10k stubs to 200k in 1 hour" and they are to dumb to realize that those videos are edited. So they hop on the market and get frustrated when there orders don't sell in 2 seconds like the guru master stub wizard on youtube, so the sink the prices.
I haven't given up hope on this game because it's still early. Hopefully sds can see what people are upset about and fix some of the issues, but ad always communication from them had been 0.

Agree 100% I've spent about $500 on this game and couod easily buy the entire collection, but that doesn't appeal to me. I don't mind spending money on stubs but I do it for fun. Almost everytime I put 100 into this game I buy a 50 bundle because I enjoy packs and the rest immediately goes into the market. I buy this game every year since 2014 this is my third year of really playing DD. Without the market I might as well save my money and play franchise.

The new quicksell values just prioritize long term investments, as they probably should have to begin with. It hurts short term 84-85 investments, sure, but there isn't really a reason that you should have been able to make about the same amount of stubs on an 84-85 upgrade as an 80-85 upgrade(I'm talking about the less obvious ones that actually make people stubs because the obvious ones are the price of the next tier anyway). Just wait until later. I'm a firm believer that topps now cards control the market. We will see how that plays out
