Wouldn't an MLB 40-Man Custom League Get Boring Very Quickly?
-
No player progression, no draft, so basically in a 12 team league, the twelve teams that were chosen are the only teams whose players are in the league which means that we're limited to the same 480 players for the duration of the league.
-
Well the majors seem to be ok with having the same 40 players (give or take a few) for their real-life 162 game seasons, as do the fans, so I reckon it will be all good Admittedly though, they do have 15 teams in their leagues, not 12.
-
Yes but in real life players improve/age, and there is a draft and a constant influx of new players coming into the league. As far as I can tell, from custom leagues, not one player will ever be in the league that wasn't in the league on day 1.
-
True but for us it will only be a year because the leagues surely won’t carry over into The Show 21, also in the DD leagues you can swap in and out your players from your collection.
-
Nobody cares stop crying ..lucky there's even an option to play online Lg this year
-
I like it personally; fun not to have all world players and more variety. The problem is that more than 12 teams deep the pickings are slim.

Never settle for this mode. We fight until we get the real mode.

Say it louder for the people in the back! There is no substance to custom leagues. They literally rolled out a watered down franchise mode. It’s embarrassing!

First rule of annualised game development, don’t try to do too much in one go because you’ll mess it up.
Give it time.

It feels more like “don’t try that hard, so anything after this can look like ‘improvement’”.
Don’t give me that [censored], in 2017 they did a great job with online franchise. The developers realized the cash cow came from the 10 year olds who play Diamond Dynasty and pay for their teams. Online franchise isn’t bringing in the revenue. That’s why they don’t care about it.

Ok then thanks for keeping the discussion civil and friendly.

No answer I see. Must be someone working for SDS and must not know how basic economics works. SDS receives $0 from custom leagues/online franchise, gain a ton of extra money from diamond dynasty. Some of us aren’t sheep. It’s clear as day where all the energy is focused on in this game.

No I don’t work for SDS and I do know how basic economics and even software development work. My comment about ‘don’t try to do too much’ is speaking from experience, not in annualised game development but software in general. Start small, build from there. Much easier to quash bugs in 1,000 new procedures than 10,000.
I agree that it’s obvious a large amount of development resources are assigned to improving DD because that is popular and revenue generating. I couldn’t put a % on it as many resources are stretched across multiple modes.

They already had a great online franchise mode in 2017. Then they scrapped it in 18 and 19. Then they threw out this watered down version of custom leagues and it is not a well designed game mode.
How can lower rated teams even survive? If you’re the Tigers or Marlins, you have no chance since there is no minor league system. 15 inactive players without player progression is one of the issues here.
They don’t need to “start small”, they need to build off what they had in 17. -

They don’t need to “start small”, they need to build off what they had in 17.I 100% agree with you that progression needs to be added to custom leagues (and it will in either 21 or 22). The problem with building off what was in 17 was the way that it was built wasn’t something that could be maintained going forward with the new way the game was setup. This was (eventually) made clear in the comms and without insight into how it works the frustration is understandable.
Kind of like replacing a one storey house that had a little structural damage with a two storey brand new house, and adding features room by room - the structure is in place and it has much more potential for renovations.
Sorry, couldn’t think of a better example in a hurry.
