Not in my squad, not in any collection, market shows him as sellable from my inventory. But when I put in a sell order I get an error saying he must be unequipped or removed from a squad. I only have one squad (default) and he isn’t in the lineup or on the bench. Anything I’m missing?

Event squad. Even if you don't play events he is in there

Yes. Current event is American League hitters vs national league pitchers. Since Mercedes is the 3rd highest rated American League catcher in the game he automatically gets put in your event lineup unless you have both Adley Ruschman and Salvador Perez
