There are many times I'll get on, late at night especially, and all the online games just play different. RS, Play vs CPU, Showdown..just all of the online stuff.

I mean there seems to be no semblance of my controller being involved in the game. The PCI just reports whatever it wants and the animation gets in to back it up. Every fast ball high is "very late" . I swing through pitches that I undoubtedly was on..and the animation goes as far as showing my swing in a much different area than I'm sure I swung through.

Last night I'm "Play vs CPU" for a challenge to beat Dbacks on All-Star. They beat me 1-0. Which I typically score 6-10 runs in this mode and always win. Started again and won 1-0. And both games just felt completely artificial.

Swear it's like I'm just watching the game play out. I'll check swing and hit homeruns. I'll barely touch the swing-button and, depending on the "game-situation" I'll take a rip and miss..or not swing at all. There is absolutely no consistency.

But, I'll be fair and say the majority of the time controller input seems to pretty relevant.

So, is this "lag effect" I hear ppl talking about. Where server processing is so slow the AI just kinda takes over and makes it up as it goes along?

just wondering. Not trying to disrespect the game. Not much you can do about lag...if that's what I'm experiencing.

The only thing that could be affected by "lag", if by lag you mean online lag, is Ranked Seasons, Battle Royale and Events. These are played against opponents over the internet, so lag can and will have an impact.

Play vs CPU, Showdown and Moments, although part of an "online" mode of play, ie, Diamond Dynasty, are played locally so there is no internet lag at all to speak of.

Not if you are talking about input lag, that is an altogether different story.

What would input lag be? Controller?

Not controller only. It has to do with the entire cycle of what you see vs button pressed.

    Example....

On a standard TV, even in game mode, if you press the button at what seems to be the perfect moment, you will be late of the press compared to if you do the same thing on a gaming monitor.

That makes sense. But, if that were the case (all things being equal) that would be a consistent thing. What I'm describing is far from consistent.

I find that happens when the controller gets low in battery, or when I've been playing for hours and hours. It may be superstition but I feel its like Windows 7. You gotta reboot the PS4 every so often to start fresh, clear out the memory leaks etc. When I've been playing too long without a restart I find I can't time my hits at all and yet the person i'm vs'ing is knocking out 4 dingers in the 1st inning on me.

It’s not completely true. If you have a samsung tv and turn off everything. I’m talking about keep internet disconnected, turn off app updating, dynamic contrast, anynet, tv auto update. Then go into Samsung’s secret menu which is mute 182 power. You can turn off every other tv processing. I have a input lag program and my 65 Samsung tv does 7ms input lag.
