This is a two part question. And I understand if this conversation gets moved to "off topic" thread but I ask this question in here because Diamond Dynasty involves H2H online play.

Get to the question already! Okay okay, assuming we all eventually move from PS4 to PS5 will you be buying a 4k monitor to get the most out of your new system? Can we all agree that a monitor makes a difference in online gaming? I have a 4k TV but don't think I'd play a HOF or Legend Ranked game on it. I feel that buying a PS5 and playing it on my 1080 monitor (some people 720) wouldn't be squeezing all the juice from my new shiny toy. Asking what others thoughts are on it. Especially for those competing head to head.

All that matters is response time and to a lesser extent refresh rate. 4K etc etc are all marketing terms and meaningless.

I have no idea if this is true or not, but a friend of mine who is a big time pc online gamer said to avoid 4k when playing online. I forget the reasoning but the process to run 4k takes something away from how smooth and fast playing online would run in 1080p. It would look better obviously but he said to stick with 1080p to get the most otherwise out of your monitor. Again, don't know if thats accurate or not but that's what he recommended.

It has to do with frame rates and stability in these frame rates. The higher the resolution, the lower the frame rates will be. So for example you can play some games on the PS4 Pro on 4K, which will run at 30 FPS. If you play on 1080p, the frame rate will be 60 FPS. That's double the amount of frames per second and leads to a smoother experience. That's most important for competitive gaming.

1440p at 144hz will probably be the sweet spot for gaming. But for visual beauty yes 2160p would be better. But since the new consoles will have high end specs like good gaming computers I am guessing that 2k 1440p at a high refresh rate, 120-165hz is gonna make the most difference. Once you play over 60 fps you will never want to play under that number again.

Yeah that makes sense, thanks. Made sense when he explained it to me too I just don't know a ton about that kind of stuff and forgot exactly the reasoning behind it.
