SS Maddux

How has everyone done with SS Maddux? Surprisingly I haven’t faced him yet. I’m not a huge fan of having a sinker, 4 seam, she cutter as 3 of his 5 pitches, but 97 control and good per 9’s are hard to pass up. Any comments or opinions would be helpful, thanks!

So far pitched 3 games with him and he has a 0.57 ERA, I really really like him.

Those pitches are what make him good tho, sinker and cutter are the best two pitches in this game. I haven’t tried him but he’s probably decent at worst

Yes I bought him off the market. Been one of my best pitchers. Can dot with him. As long as you mix your pitches he is elite.
-
I find him hard to hit.

I have him prestiged and he's lights out. Focus more on the cutter than the sinker and you can throw the 4 seam more than you would think, especially once prestiged its like 95mph.

He’s pretty solid. The level you play on will have a great effect though. He’s a lot better on the higher levels than all star and below. Also the sinker, cutter, 4 seam is the one of the best combos you can have. Throw in a change/splitter and slider/slurve and it’s the best pitch mix you can get. Three pitches that look similar that end up on three different planes is deadly. Also this year I feel the curveball is an almost useless pitch with how easy it is to read and how much it hangs and how curves end up as balls way to often

He’s legit. 3-0 for me in RS and I second what @CCCStunna30 said. Mixing up a 4 Seam, Cutter & Sinker with him is fantastic. His fastball has more life than you’d expect and his control is amazing. If you like finesse pitchers or need one then without a doubt add him to your rotation.

I only used him one game. I could tell my opponent was pretty good. But I pitched a complete game with 4H allowed.
It was on all star. But I felt in complete control. He dots the corners.
I believe he is my favorite pitcher ever in DD after just that one game.
You can spot the curveball down and away to lefties. It’s SO NASTY. -
I really enjoy pitching with him. He hits his spots so nicely. You can absolutely paint with him.
That being said you’re sure to see people on here say how he got rocked yada yada yada...This is The Show 20. Everybody gets rocked sometimes even when you throw a dot.

I've used him in Ranked Seasons for 4 starts, a friendly online game, multiple times against the CPU in Conquest and a handful of times against the All-Time teams.
He is hands down, my favorite starting pitcher in this game and believe me when I tell you, I've used just about all of them. In fact, I think the only starting pitchers I haven't given a go are Bob Feller (Signature Series), Nolan Ryan (Signature Series). and Tom Seaver (Awards). For reference, my starting rotation is:
Ace: Greg Maddux (99)
SP2: Chris Sale (99)
SP3: Orel Hershiser (98)
SP4: Corey Kluber (99)
SP5: James Paxton (99)What sets Maddux apart from other starting pitchers in this game is his arsenal is almost universally useful against both righties and lefties. The thing about him is, it's all about rhythm and getting your opponent in the proverbial "rocking chair." You can't just spam sinkers wherever you feel like and you should never lean on one pitch with Maddux. Instead, you want to keep all of his pitches up in terms of confidence in them. I can't tell you how many times I've been able to throw his curveball or changeup high as my strike-out pitch and at no point did I feel worried that I was going to "hang it" and have it end up in the seats. His combination of movement, pinpoint command, and change of speed is special and I'm not normally drawn to "finesse" starters that rely on locating rather than overpowering velocity.

I’d rather face Ryan/Feller/Chapman than Maddux or Orel any day.

Same. Especially Nolan Ryan. For whatever reason, SDS can never seem to make his card as dominant as it should be.

Yea agree 100%. Those finesse/slow pitchers get me flailing like a drunk octopus all over the place.

Preach. The HOF next to last game at Shea. Lost 6-5, but was a flail fest, then won. Diaz gave up a 3 run bomb to blow it, just like real life!
