I'm not sure if I missed something but if you prestige a card does the diamond card become unsellable ? I don't remember locking in Mariano Rivera for anything and I can't sell him now ?

Correct. Once you collect them to a prestige program, you can no longer sell them. Because of the inning vouchers and stuff

in order to have finished the prestige then you must have locked him in at one point

Yeah in order to get the prestige version of the card, you need the +10 you get for locking the original into the prestige collection. There's no other way to get prestige.
