If your device doesn't pass this check, the app may not work. Here's how to keep your device eligible:

Quick checklist

Keep your phone up to date. Install all available Android security updates, Google Play system updates, and Google Play services updates. Restart your phone when prompted.

Install the Companion App from Google Play. Download it and update it only through the Play Store.

Use your phone's official software. Rooting, unlocking the bootloader, or installing a custom version of Android can stop your device from passing the check.

Check your device certification. Open the Play Store → tap your profile icon → Settings → About → Play Protect certification. It should say "Device is certified." Note: A certified device is a good start, but certification alone doesn't guarantee your device passes Strong Integrity.

What about older phones?

On Android 13 and newer, Strong Integrity requires a security patch from within the past 12 months. This includes updates to components supplied by your phone's manufacturer.

This means a phone can eventually stop qualifying once its manufacturer stops sending security updates, even if the phone still works well and says it's "up to date." Updating the Companion App can't make up for those missing patches.

To see how long your model will get security updates, check your manufacturer's support page.

Still having trouble?

If the problem continues after you update and restart your phone, please contact SDS support via the link in the upper right-hand corner of this page and include:

Phone model
Android version
Security update date
Companion App version
A screenshot of the error

Tip: You can usually find your Android version and security update date under Settings → About phone → Android version. The exact menu names can differ between manufacturers.
