You compete against the other starting pitchers for the gold glove, and each of you start every five games.  The games you play in the field only add to your chances to accumulate put outs and assists, which increases your chances of earning the award provided you remain error free.</p>
<p dir="auto">Yes, if you are an infielder then this is a handicap since hardly any shortstop goes an entire season without an error.  But, pitchers routinely go a season without an error.</p>
