Unifying Pitch Attributes (Velocity & Break)

I think pitch attributes like velocity and break should be unified into single stats, just like control was unified.

So pitchers would only need:

Control

Velocity

Break

Right now, pitchers require too many tokens compared to hitters.

Some people might say, “Pitchers earn more tokens than hitters anyway,” but in reality, the difference isn’t that big.

Hitters play almost every game (unless injured), while pitchers only play once every 5 games in a rotation.
So if you compare token gain over 5 days, the difference between hitters and pitchers isn’t huge — probably not even double, especially if both are played at the same difficulty and overall level.

However, pitchers still have way more areas where they need to invest tokens.

So by simplifying attributes into Control / Velocity / Break, this issue can be partially solved.

At the same time, I think players should be able to adjust pitch characteristics individually.

For example:

Fastball: 99 mph with sharp movement

Slider: 83 mph with less sharp break

It would be great if we could customize velocity and break for each pitch type within limits.

Maybe something like an 8-level system:

Level 8 = maximum

Level 1 = minimum

So players can fine-tune each pitch the way they want.

Token Progression Issues

When I play in high school, my player usually has higher attributes than others.

But once I move to college, there’s a 3-year time skip, and suddenly most players are about 10 overall higher than my character.

It feels like those players improved during those 3 years, but my player didn’t.

Did my character just stop developing for 3 years?

Even though we should have been training and playing during that time, the small amount of tokens given doesn’t feel realistic at all.

Instead, it would be better to:

Give a large amount of tokens to reflect those 3 years, or

Increase overall attributes, or

Let players choose key attributes to boost (for example, +10)

Also, token progression itself feels unrealistic.

From high school through college and into the early–mid 20s, athletes typically:

Recover faster

Gain strength quickly

Improve rapidly

But in the game, token gain is the same as in the late 20s, which doesn’t make much sense.

I think token gain should be increased during:

High school

College

Early to mid 20s

Maybe something like 1.5x or 2x.

Then after the mid 20s, it could return to the current rate.

What do you guys think?

I totally agree that the starting stats are way too low. They feel like little league through teenage skill levels.

I don’t know, starting out with 40s across the board to me is boring and unrealistic. If you want to be a well rounded player and start like that feel free but to force everyone to is restrictive and unrealistic. Min maxing is not only a video game staple but it also makes some of the best ball players of all time. Big Papi doesn’t need 40 speed and Ichiro doesn’t need 40 power.

So many of us complained about that system because it was so limiting for the player and it was tied it into the online system.

You can create everyone of those archetypes just by how you spend your points. This system is so much better, they brought it back because there were so many complaints about the limitations to that system. Most of the only RTTS players like myself were so annoyed by the limitations due the connection to online pares of the game.

I.e like power hitting big guys, speedy contact hitters or big arm outfield and catchers.

Also I’d like the attribute set up like they do on nba 2k games where you set what your max stats can be and work towards that.

Can we all agree as well that if you are draft eligible and a D1 recruit when you are playing in high school you should be the best player on the field? My suggestion would be to have your maxed out stats that you set up and play a couple games in high school move on to college or the pros and get it bumped down to a starting value and start building up.

I just did it and I was wondering if there was gonna be a special cinematic for it like hitting 20/30/40 games of a hit streak or homers, but there wasn’t. No big deal, but it would be cool to be rewarded for things like that. Julio’s massive contract with the Mariners had in part to do with the fact he and Mike Trout are the only rookies to join the 30/30 club in MLB history

I haven't seen it yet but is it even possible to be a 1st Round draft pick out of High School?

In addition to earning tokens I'd like for part of the MLB The Show 19 (I think it was 19) progression system to take effect where in-game performance gives you an attribute boost as well, even if it's just a temporary boost so as to not interfere with the token system. For example if I hit 2 home runs in a game off a RHP, I should get some type of boost to my Power vs RHP whether it's a temporary boost for x-amt of at-bats or games or it just gives me an automatic +1 to that attribute or what have you.

Another thing that I would find interesting would be something similar to NCAA Football, where you can customize your HS between some available options or import your own jersey/HS team.

One final thing and this is probably the most important thing to me, would be to allow us to IMPORT PLAYER into RTTS instead of always having to create your player. WWE allows for you to import your player and it pulls in everything except their attributes and that is such a time saving thing especially if you decide to delete your save or if something happens and you feel like starting over from scratch.
