Hard wired PS5 controller question
-
I have heard that if you connect your controller straight to your PlayStation 5 that it can actually help you with some sort of controller lag as opposed to using it bluetooth. I have always used my controllers bluetooth. My question is, if I hardwire it to my system is there any kind of certain cable specifications I'm looking for to reduce lag or is it any old charging cable will work? Or is this all nonsense? In a game like the show I think every millisecond counts for timing as opposed to something like war zone for example.

There were a lot of recent tests run on PS5 and they found there seems to be no statistically significant difference between using the Dualsense wired or wireless, neither in terms of average input lag nor in terms of consistency.

As long as your controller is not low on battery power it’s just as fast on Bluetooth.

I actually heard a streamer say that the controller works more in your favor when it’s not connected. He might be as much of an expert as I am though…

This is true. While on PS4 it did help slightly to be connected via USB over Bluetooth, there is no advantage on the PS5 through the test that have been done.

I thought performance was decreased if using wired verses wireless.

That's news to me

Try it out and let us know. Thanks!

PS4 and Dualshock 4 were notorious for having way more input lag while playing wired, due to the polling rate of the DS4. Like said before, this issue is resolved for PS5 and DS5 and there is no clear difference. I would always advise to play wired if your setup allows you to (distance to system), just to make sure there is no interference from any other wireless signal. But bluetooth works just as well so don't be discouraged if wired is no option for whatever reason.
